Meet Intrepid, she is a 30 ft. C&C sloop from 1973 moored on the Sunshine Coast, BC.

Follow my journey of DIY projects, restorations, and sailing adventures aboard my girl, Intrepid!

Intrepid Me & The Sea

About six years ago, I dove straight in to the unknown and decided to buy a sailboat. She was on 'the hard' in the yard at Choquer & Sons, my Grandfather and Father's welding and marine business. The previous owner had abandoned her, a sad but oh so common tale. Maintenance and lot fees can add up quickly, forcing some to leave their dreams behind. Thankfully in my case I have had strong family support, guidance, access to tools, and the audacity to do this all on my own. I was very adamant about taking on this endeavour by myself. Simply, due to the fact that if I'm out there in the middle of the ocean and something goes wrong - I need to know how to fix it and save myself. There's also the independent, sovereign, female empowerment as motivation too!

Burn bridges but build a good boat. - Atticus

When my Dad finally took me seriously and I had bought the boat, I was so naive to the amount of work that needed to be done to get her in the water and under sail.

You know what B.O.A.T stands for don't you?!

My dream was and still is to sail Intrepid to Tofino. In 2015, I had two months off work and thought that this would be enough time to put her in the water, learn how to sail, and then embark on the journey from the inside passage to the outside. A part of the planet which is also known as the graveyard of the pacific... What can I say, I'm an optimist.

Since then, I have invested endless hours of blood sweat and tears in to miss Intrepid. Here, my intention is to share my story with you. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

A place to inspire you and others to follow your dreams, challenge your fears, and learn from my mistakes.

To be honest, I am a perfectionist. Sometimes to a fault. I have been saving all my photos and videos in hopes to create a blog such as this for when all my projects were complete. The reality is, perfection doesn't exist, and the 'List' never ends. So, I have decided to share my journey with you, imperfections and all. I will be posting all my DIY restoration projects that I have documented over the years, and am so excited to finally share them with you!

Fair winds & following seas,

Captain Coco
